Your dog is probably a great source of joy. Their antics likely make you laugh, but you’ll soon realize that you need to train them on what behaviors are acceptable in your home. Unfortunately, this can take a lot of time, and that might be difficult for a busy family.
The professionals at The Dog Wizard Virginia Beach are here to help. We offer day training programs to local residents. This enables our trainers to work with your dog in an intensive manner so the dog will have the basic obedience skills it needs to be a well-behaved family member.
Cherie graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and has served as a registered nurse for 14 years. Although her first love for animals began as a child, her passion to become a Dog Trainer was influenced by years of professional and personal experience in canine assistance with patient recovery, emotional support, and child health and development. She has completed educational modules, training sessions, and is active in a mentorship program with The Dog Wizard Head Trainer and Behavioral Specialist. Her patience, ability to listen, and collaborative training approach continues to produce successful and sustainable outcomes. Cherie adopted a Doberman and welcomed him to her family and their community. After training and adaptation to his new environment, he quickly took a liking to serving as an ambassador at her children’s sporting events, and local community proceedings (ask her for pictures, they are sure to make you smile).
Overall, Cherie is dedicated to ensuring that all clients and their fur babies have a fun, interactive, and rewarding training experience.
My name is Julia Liles and I’ve owned dogs my whole life and really love training and working with dogs. I’ve also trained and had my own horses growing up and enjoy working with the horses as well. I currently have 4 horses, 4 dogs, and 1 cat. I hope to learn as much as I can and continue to learn more throughout my career as a dog trainer.
Mountain spent 12 years in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantryman. He deployed 5 times in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. In Afghanistan he worked closely with the IDD dogs and their handlers to clear major MSR’s and sweep marketplaces on high stress combat deployments being awarded several prestigious medals for service.
After the Marines, Mountain began his professional career with Off Leash K-9 teaching basic and advanced obedience, tracking/training, detection and personal protection before opening his own business in Florida.
He has trained explosive detection dogs for the Anaheim Angels, major colleges and other public and private organizations. Mountain has also assisted on multiple platforms with instructions to some of America’s elite special operations units and their K9 counterparts. He’s been recognized for his work in the lost pet community and has facilitated many dogs for companies like WAG in the pursuit of lost pet recovery.
His wide array of knowledge of canine cynology and the different disciplines required to make a well rounded patrols dog coupled with his vision for wanting to build a respected name in the dog community were the driving force behind creating Para Bellum K-9 and being a part of The Dog Wizard.

Owner and Trainer
It’s one thing for your dog to learn new skills. It’s another for your dog to retain those skills for years. At The Dog Wizard, we offer lifetime support as part of our training programs. After your dog graduates, you can continue to bring it in for weekly group classes. These sessions offer a chance to reinforce skills, make new friends and strengthen the unique bond between the pet and pet parent.
Private Dog Training Lessons
Does your dog need one-on-one training support? The Dog Wizard has you covered with our personalized, private dog training sessions. First, our professional trainers will get to know your pet’s unique habits. Then, they’ll design a training plan that meets their precise needs. These lessons may take place at your home or our facility — wherever you and your dog feel most comfortable.
Group Dog Training Classes
Are you interested in group training for your dog? We offer group dog training classes that cover everything your dog needs to know, from obedience commands to housebreaking. In addition to learning new skills, it’ll have a chance to socialize with fellow canines. Our programs include puppy classes for dogs up to 5 months of age, as well as foundation classes for small groups of five to seven.
Board and Train Dog Training
Do you want to enroll your dog in training classes but don’t have time to attend? We’ve got you covered. At The Dog Wizard, we offer board and train programs at various program lengths of stay: 7 days, 14 days or 21 days. During the program, your pet will stay with us full-time and learn directly from our dedicated, professional trainers.
Puppy Training Programs
There’s no doubt puppies are full of energy. While this playfulness provides plenty of entertainment, it can also lead to behavioral problems. From chewing furniture to play biting, there are all sorts of mischief for young puppies to get into. That’s why we offer comprehensive puppy training. These lessons teach puppies essential skills (such as obedience commands, leash walking and socialization), helping ensure they grow into well-behaved adults.
For the best dog training in the Virginia Beach area, The Dog Wizard is the only option. From obedience training to leash control, our trainers have the skills and experience necessary to help your dog reach their full potential.
We commonly offer dog training to the following communities:
Our training is not just about teaching behaviors (Sit, Come, Down). Instead, we believe in teaching your dog how to make better choices and how to listen to us instead of their impulses.
Of course we teach your dogs all of the basic obedience and commands you will need to communicate with them, but we also teach them how to be engaged and to follow through with these commands even in the most distracting of environments. What good is the “Come” command if it does not work when you need your dog to come because he is running after a squirrel into the path of a car!?
We believe in refining your dog’s comprehension of obedience so that it becomes a way of life for them, not just a few tricks they can show off when they are in the mood.
That’s why we not only teach your dog the skills it needs to be well-behaved, but we will give you, your spouse, your kids, and anyone else in your family all the tools necessary to maintain a long, healthy, and happy relationship with your new and improved family member.
Absolutely not! You’ll see that you get to enjoy your dog’s true personality more when you can do things together as a team. Through this strengthened relationship, you’ll find you’ll be able to do more together, regulate certain behaviors, and enjoy more quality time together.
No dog is too old for training, however beginning training at a young age sets the stage for a well-behaved dog for years to come. Regardless of age, all dogs benefit by having structure, boundaries, and cognitive exercises that help keep them happy, healthy, and younger than their years. Unless your dog has a medical condition, or adversely affected to basic exercise we can find a program to meet their needs.
We like to do a full assessment of your dog and ensure we have a true understanding of your goals, both for the dog, and for yourself. We are not a one-size-fits-all solution, and would rather tailor a program that meets your specific needs and desires.
We are balanced dog trainers. We like to pair our training style to the unique needs of the dog in front of us. We have many tools in our belts and not every dog requires the same protocols. We’ll provide a solution that best fits the ultimate goals you have in mind for both you and your dog.
That depends on the dog and the situation. We use pressure and release techniques utilizing transitional slip leads, pinch collars, and remote-collars. These tools, when used properly are very effective to achieve training goals with the least amount of stress on the dog.
That depends on your lifestyle and your goals for your pup. You’ll get fantastic results either way with us, but the in home sessions will require more of a time commitment from you than the board and train. During the free evaluation, a trainer will help you determine the best program for you and your pup.
