The decision to forge ahead right now boiled down to the business’s ability to adhere to all the mandates by the county and state, as well as safely help people and their dogs right now at a time many people need it. “We saw other Dog Wizard franchise operations being able to help people with virtual classes and board and train options requiring no interaction with the human, so the decision came fairly easy to press forward rather than wait”, said Karen. “Ultimately, our business in the months to come may look a little different than right now, since eventually we will be able to offer our entire program list, but it feels good to be able to offer what we can to help people now.” Typically, The Dog Wizard starts all clients off with a free in person evaluation, but right now Karen is conducting the evaluation via the old fashion telephone. “Honestly, the phone evaluation process is going better than expected, when you know what questions to ask it is easy to determine how we can help”. Shelters across the country report record highs in adoptions with so many people at home. “We want to do our part to make sure these dogs stay in their homes post coronavirus by offering training and guidance to prevent deal breaker behavioral problems from forming,” says Karen.
Karen is a specialist for a federal urban search and rescue team based in Virginia with missions including Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti Earthquake, Superstorm Sandy, and Hurricanes Irma and Maria in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Jim has extensive business knowledge, leading companies such as Jim Meadows Greenhouses among others, that pride itself on their customer service and honest work ethic.
