Live a Happier Life with Your Furry Friend

The Dog Wizard Cincinnati is the place to go for dog behavior modification. It’s the center of what we do. Our certified trainers specialize in aggression, reactivity, resource guarding, separation anxiety, and fear-based behavior. These are the special cases that don’t fit a standard group class and those which can disrupt how your family lives.

But we also deal with other dog behavior issues, from small to big. Among these include: coming when called, housebreaking, counter surfing, trash diving, pulling on the leash, excessive barking, chewing, digging, cat or squirrel chasing, jumping and getting on the furniture, play biting, door bolting, begging, door scratching, car sickness, marking, separation anxiety, following commands, and eating and managing bowel movements.

If you have a dog that’s already been somewhere else, that another trainer said was too far gone, or that you’re afraid might be unfixable, that’s the dog we’re the perfect fit for. We also offer effective puppy foundation work. But it’s behavior modification where we truly excel.

How It Works

Our certified trainers start with a thorough behavioral evaluation, build a training plan around your dog’s specific needs, and remain with you through every stage: from hands-on work to lifetime follow-up support.

Free Evaluation

Every case starts with a deep behavioral evaluation. We dig deep. We meet your dog in person, assess what’s actually driving the behavior, and give you an honest idea of what it will take to change it.

Customized Training Plan

There’s no single approach that works the same for every dog. We know this well. And that’s why we build a plan around your dog’s specific behavior challenges, your household, and your goals. We also explain exactly what we’re doing and why.

Hands-On Training

Our certified balanced trainers use a full toolbox to get your dog from exhibiting challenging behaviors to becoming a well-mannered companion. This may include e-collars, prong collars, and slip leads. Training takes place at our Cincinnati facility or in your home, depending on what option is ideal for your furry friend.

Ongoing Support

Our training doesn’t end at graduation. Every program comes with lifetime support. This means group classes, follow-up guidance, and trainers who are available to help you maintain and build on your dog’s progress long after the program ends.

We enrolled our Golden Retriever, Bennie, in the board‑and‑train program, and our trainer, David, did an outstanding job. Bennie went in to work on leash manners, dog reactivity, socialization, and foundational obedience — and he came out having mastered all of that and so much more. Communication throughout the process was excellent, with regular check‑ins and updates that made us feel confident applying everything Bennie learned. We highly recommend The Dog Wizzard Cincinnati!
David is a gem! He worked on our dog with leash reactivity and dog aggression. We got daily updates and were able to see what he was doing and our dog’s progress. Communication is outstanding and he really knows what he is doing! I am so impressed - thank you, David 🐾💜🐾

We had such a wonderful experience with The Dog Wizard of Cincinnati! Our dog, Rambo, was trained by David, and we couldn’t have asked for a better trainer. David was incredibly kind, patient, and understanding, not only with Rambo but with me as well. He took the time to explain things, answer my questions, and make sure I felt comfortable and confident throughout the training process. You can truly tell that he cares about the dogs he works with and the families they belong to. Rambo has made such great progress, and we are so thankful for the time, patience, and dedication David put into helping him. Having someone who is patient with both the dog and the owner makes such a difference! Rambo is really going to miss David. ❤️ It’s hard to say goodbye to someone who has become such an important part of his training and growth. We are so grateful for everything David has done for Rambo and for us. I highly recommend The Dog Wizard of Cincinnati, and especially David, to anyone looking for someone who genuinely cares about dogs and their families. 🐾❤️

David was our trainer at the Cincinnati dog wizard, and we have had great results so far. David was great with walking us through how the collars worked, and how to keep properly training our dogs. The lady who did the dog evaluation was very nice aswell. Overall great service.

We can’t say enough great things about Cincinnati Dog Wizard and our trainer, David! Our Labrador mix, Remy, completed the 14-day off-leash board-and-train program, and the results have been amazing. We initially brought Remy to training because she struggled with insecurity, reactivity, and jumping on people. From the beginning, David took the time to listen to all of our concerns, understand Remy’s needs, and build a wonderful bond with her. Since completing the program, we’ve seen tremendous improvement in Remy’s confidence and behavior. She is much more manageable, responsive, and comfortable in situations that used to be challenging for her. We’re so happy with the progress she has made and feel much more confident continuing to reinforce everything she learned. We’re incredibly thankful to Cincinnati Dog Wizard and especially to David for all of the time, patience, and care he put into working with Remy. We couldn’t recommend David enough!

We brought our Murphy to the dog wizard as a last resort. He struggled with fear based agression and we lived a pretty secluded life. It was sad for him not being able to make friends or be around other animals. We did a 3 week board and train with Pam and she was a miracle worker. He same home such a more confident and brought structure into my sweet boy. He has been home 2 weeks and can be around our other dog with no muzzle, they play, and have been best friends. She made our dreams come true and help Murphy have a happier life. Will recommend Pam or any other trainer at The dog wizard!

We can’t say enough good things about the dog wizard and David! We’re so incredibly happy with the progress our dog, Duke made during his training. From the beginning, David was patient, knowledgeable, and really took the time to understand Duke as an individual rather than just treating him like any other dog. Duke is a BIG dog with a big personality, and we had been struggling with several behaviors that were becoming really difficult to manage at home. David gave us the tools and confidence to better communicate with Duke, and the difference we’ve seen in him has been amazing. We are so grateful for the work David put into Duke and would absolutely recommend him + the dog wizard to anyone looking for a trainer who truly cares about the dogs he works with. Thank you for helping us bring out the best in Duke! ❤️

We have had nothing but wonderful experiences with Dog Wizard and with our trainer, Pam. We have a very high energy chocolate lab puppy, and our other training program was unsuccessful in helping her learn obedience and self-control. We wanted Sadie to keep her spark, but learn to interact with other people and dogs in a positive way. We had her in the three-week board and train program, and the results have been amazing! The daily videos put us at ease and made us feel like we were part of the process. The mid-program lessons and the public meetings affirmed our relationship with Sadie and made all the difference. The on-going commitment to continuing her growth and maintaining the progress has been so helpful. We recommend this program to anyone and everyone!

I can’t say enough good things about The Dog Wizard. Before training, Vader was a very reactive and fearful dog who struggled with many everyday situations. The team was patient, knowledgeable, and truly dedicated to helping him build confidence and improve his behavior. Vader’s trainer, Amanda, was phenomenal. She kept us informed throughout the process, answered all of our questions, and provided us with the knowledge and tools to continue his training at home after his board-and-train program. Thanks to her guidance and the team’s hard work, Vader has made incredible progress and is such a good boy. We are so grateful for everything they did and highly recommend The Dog Wizard to anyone looking for professional, compassionate dog training.

We want to thank our Trainer David for his patience and guidance with our two Australian Shepherd siblings, Taco and Honey. He helped teach our pups that sitting still is a skill! They also worked on their leash manners and impulse control. We are able to walk them without worrying about their behavior, which brings us peace of mind. Thank you again!

I'm thrilled to extend a heartfelt shout out to Alex at The Dog Wizard in West Chester, Ohio. Meika was enrolled in the Jumpstart 14 day Train & Board Program. There, Alex masterfully guided her through learning to sit, down, place, come, off, heel, yes, and break. With consistent practice, she'll undoubtfully blossom into a pro. Thanks, Alex, for providing Meika and I with the essential foundations to help her become the most amazing dog possible.

We love The Dog Wizard!! David worked with our 8 month old miniature dachshund, Winnie, and he did such a great job!!! Before working with David, Winnie was unbearably challenging for us and put so much strain on our household. Since working with David, it’s like we have a whole new dog!! She is so well behaved but still has her fun, spunky, mischievous personality that we love so much!! She also stopped terrorizing our cat, Sassy, who very much appreciates David’s help for that; now they’re just two best buds! 🥹🩵 Thank you so much to David!! Winnie loves you and we can’t wait to start swim lessons soon!! ☺️ (Winnie also got to work with Kayla for a day and we love her as well!!)

We just completed the 8-week “New Start” training program with David at Cincinnati Dog Wizard, and the results have been incredible! Our 9 month old German Shepherd, Ghost, graduated today, and the difference in his behavior is night and day.!When we started, we were struggling with typical puppy issues like biting, mouthing, jumping, and lack of impulse control, especially around kids. Over the course of the program, David helped Ghost learn how to play appropriately, stay calm, and disengage when he gets too excited. His obedience has improved so much as well, he now reliably responds to commands like sit, down, place, leave it, and come. Walks are great now due to his improved leash manners and his calm greetings have made a huge difference when meeting people! David was patient, knowledgeable, and great at explaining how to continue reinforcing everything at home. We’re so grateful for the progress Ghost has made and would highly recommend Cincinnati Dog Wizard to anyone looking for real, lasting results with their dog!

There is a silent struggle that many dog owners endure. Having a reactive dog can be isolating, and at times, depressing. You feel alone, helpless and maybe even a little embarrassed. You hold your breath when UPS delivers a package, you stop inviting family over and you anxiously walk outside, constantly looking every which way to avoid triggers. We came to the Dog Wizard overwhelmed and depleted. Not only did Pam listen, she helped us carry the load. Our boy Theo had a lot of anxiety and reactivity. He struggled with confidence and the ability to calm his mind and body. We needed guidance, structure and patience. Pam worked diligently with Theo sharing her skills, knowledge and love for animals. She was honest, thorough and has never left us guessing. She has patiently worked with our children and our neighbors to help Theo, and all of us, succeed. Our dog is now pleasant, obedient and happy! We are forever grateful for Pam and her continued dedication to dogs and their families.

Our 6‑month‑old puppy, George, completed the 21‑day board‑and‑train program with Pam, and it was truly one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Pam was everything we could have hoped for in a trainer - patient, knowledgeable, and so genuinely invested in George’s progress. We enrolled George to work on overall obedience, crate training, grooming skills, nipping, and impulse control. After the 21 days, the improvement has been incredible. We’re so grateful to Pam and the entire team at The Dog Wizard for the time, consistency, and care they put into his training. The daily video updates were a huge comfort and made the three weeks fly by. It was clear that George was not only learning but also having a great time. We can already tell he’s excited for the lifetime support classes - and especially for seeing Pam and his puppy friends again!

Chase looked for a home for over a year. In that time she became anxious and hard to handle. After working with Pam for just a couple days, you could tell a bond was being formed. Pam was patient, kind, consistent, and showed Chase that she cared about her and believed that she could succeed. Those traits made Chase more than successful in her training. She became an amazing dog again! Thank you so much Pam!! All her success is a result of your hard work! Met several more great employees, but also wanted to mention David. Knowledgeable, patient, so willing to help and give of his time! You all have a great group there! Thank you so much!

We brought our 6 month old lab puppy, Charlie, to the Dog Wizard for help with pretty much everything. Charlie was counter surfing, pulling badly on leash, getting into everything, chasing the cat, jumping on people, and just would not listen. Pam was our trainer, and I cannot say enough about the amazing job she did. She is an excellent communicator - texted us regular updates and posted videos of our clearly very happy puppy almost every day. She came to our house several times to train us, and was very patient with all our questions. Since Charlie came home she has been night and day better. Don't get me wrong - she's still a whirlwind of crazy chocolate lab energy and personality - but we have been provided an off switch, or at least a pause button. Charlie also loves to do the training, and often actually puts herself in timeout. She is perfect on leash and in stores. And we still can call Pam anytime if we have any questions or issues. She responds immediately, and has offered to do more meetings if we ever need. We love Pam!!

Katie and The Dog Wizard are absolutely incredible! We enrolled our German Shorthaired Pointer, Bella, in the 21-day training program, and the transformation has been remarkable. Bella is noticeably calmer, far more responsive to commands, and genuinely seems happier and less stressed. She's become the well-rounded companion we always hoped for. Katie trained Bella with such care and dedication. The follow-up sessions after the program were invaluable in helping us maintain Bella's progress. Today was our final scheduled session, and we met at Bass Pro to showcase how far Bella has come. She performed beautifully, and Katie was thrilled with her transformation. I wholeheartedly recommend The Dog Wizard in West Chester to anyone looking to train their dog. This investment was absolutely worth it. Bella is happier, better behaved, and more at ease—and I couldn't be more thrilled with the results. Five stars isn't enough—I'd give them 100 stars if I could! Katie, thank you for everything. We'll definitely stay in touch. Outstanding work!

Katie was great with our dogs Beanie and Frankie. Beanie in particular had some obsessive tendencies with fetch and barking and would not listen to us. Since being back both dogs actually LISTEN to our commands and have made our house much easier to manage with kids around. Both dogs also have more confidence and seemed to really enjoy their board/train experience. Most importantly they still have their same personalities even though they are now able to follow commands. Everyone is happier since they have gotten home. Thank you Katie!

David Sanders has been an incredible dog trainer for both our terrier rescue, Ollie, and our Aussiedoodle, Roo. Ollie has always been especially challenging, but David transformed him into a calm, well-behaved dog we never thought was possible. We can finally eat in peace with no more whining, barking, or fighting between them. David consistently made himself available whenever we needed extra hands-on guidance, and his support never felt rushed or limited. We’re truly blown away by the results and look forward to continuing to work with him to maintain this amazing progress.

Sending our puppy to the Dog Wizard was the best decision we could have made. C.J. was amazing with our Goldendoodle and continues to be incredibly helpful whenever we reach out. The training taught our dog so much—I honestly don’t know what we would have done without it. We chose the two-week board and train option, and it was wonderful. I especially love that they offer lifetime follow-ups and ongoing support. Highly recommend to everyone!

Long story - short: My dog was a hurricane. She destroyed everything in her path. Like a Category 5 hitting the Outer Banks, she left a trail of destruction, sadness and despair. She's a 1 yr old Rottweiler. A machine that needs direction and activity. We tried other trainers in the city, then we found The Dog Wizard and David in West Chester. He saved my relationship with my dog and I'm so grateful for his efforts and the current results. She remains a work-in-progress and we are all working together to provide her the resources to be a long-term success story. She's more of a heavy tropical storm nowadays and that's a huge win. David is amazing. Patient, knowledgeable, and an effective communicator. I HIGHLY recommend contacting them.

What a perfect pairing for us David is! Our sweet little rescue, Frankie was terrified of his surrounding and the people in it. We knew it would take more time, as we had to work on fear and anxiety before we could even focus on the training… Davis was patient and kind, even taking Frankie home with him to build trust. Introduced him to other dog friends, new places, and helping him understand that there are many happy times ahead. Frankie has come leaps and bounds from day one. We continue to have check up visits with David and we’re all growing together, and much appreciate the time he’s taken. We’re planning a trip over the new year and plan to use them for boarding! Thank you. 🐶

We did the board and train for our 3 dogs. It’s the best decision we could have made for the steps of blending our family together. The dogs also needed to learn how to become a pack and good siblings. During the process it was so much fun receiving videos and pictures of their progress. The continued help after the boarding is great too. They are always available for questions and to help with anything that comes up. David has been the best! Our dogs missed him so much when their stay was done but love seeing him when he comes out to the house for helpful tips on any issues we are having. Looking forward to seeing David on drop in sessions Saturdays to keep up the training! This process exceeded our expectations overall. We are so impressed with the continued support and communication. If you are thinking about having your dog trained you should really consider becoming part of the dog wizard family. That’s what it feels like. A big family that all have the same goal. Train you and your family on how to help your dog be the best in every situation. Thanks David for everything!

I am not even sure where to begin. We could not be any happier with our experience with The Dog Wizard! We got a puppy midsummer with hopes of having a companion dog to help keep us company as empty-nesters. What we got was 9 lbs of feral and fury!! He is the sweetest puppy we ever met, but he wouldn’t listen to a word we said, and he lived up to every preconceived expectation of a stubborn male Shih Tzu. Things weren’t going well and we didn’t know what to do🙁 He would not come when called, wouldn’t sit or hold place, walking was a train wreck, puppy-biting, peeing on the floor, and most of all, not wanting to be crate trained and wouldn’t sleep at night. He would bark for hours!!. He was like an infant, toddler and teenager all wrapped up into one!! After working with his trainer, Pam, Jack has become a brand, new man! At only seven months he now sits, lays down, housebroken, holds place, walks like a champ, recalls from wherever he is, avoids and does not acknowledge distractions. Most impressively though, he is sleeping 10 hours in his crate through the night without making a sound. Pam truly is a dog wizard and she found a way to communicate with our little man! Most importantly, she has educated us on how to be better dog parents and how to advocate and communicate with Jack. I thought I knew enough about puppy training that I could handle him. I had no idea there was so much to learn and the trainers at The Dog Wizard have opened up a whole New World for us and our time with our dog. The group support sessions on the weekends as well as in-home follow up training has been unbelievable! He continues to learn every day and we are able to enjoy his company and welcome him into our family with open arms. The day after he came home from training, we went on a weekend trip hiking and stayed in a pet friendly hotel. We ate at restaurants, traveled through stores, and navigated trails and caves with hundreds of people, and he was the most well-behaved dog there! Dozens of people complemented him on his obedience, training and overall cuteness, and we owe it all to The Dog Wizard! Thank thank you, Pam, for taking such good care of Jack and for caring for him as if he was your own! We are forever grateful!!

Our dog was extremely aggressive toward other dogs and wanted nothing to do with his new puppy sister — he basically wanted to eat her. We were so nervous, but Cranston immediately put us at ease and made us feel like change was possible. After just 3 weeks with Alex at Cincinnati Dog Wizard, our dog came home a completely different boy. He accepted the puppy right away, and six months later they’re inseparable best friends. Truly life-changing!

Living with a dog that doesn’t listen, pulls you down the street, or makes you anxious about having guests over. It wears on you, we know. At The Dog Wizard Cincinnati, we work with families who are tired of just managing the problem and actually want it solved.

We don’t run a one-size-fits-all program. Every dog that comes through our doors gets a training plan built around what’s actually going on with them and not a generic curriculum. Whether your dog needs help with basic manners or has behavior that’s been getting worse for years, we’ve seen it and we’ve worked through it.

Our trainers are based in West Chester Township, and work with families across the greater Cincinnati metro, including Hyde Park, Blue Ash, Mason, Loveland, Indian Hill, Montgomery, and throughout Hamilton and Warren counties. City dogs, suburban dogs, dogs that have never been outside a fenced yard. We know the environments they live in and we train for them.

If you’ve already tried something else and it didn’t work, that’s not a reason to give up. It’s usually just a sign the approach wasn’t the right one. Come talk to us first. The evaluation is free and there’s no pressure to commit.

About The Dog Wizard Cincinnati

Our dog training goes beyond basic commands like Sit, Come, and Down. Our approach focuses on helping your dog make better choices and respond to you instead of their impulses.

We cover all the essential obedience commands you need to communicate effectively with your dog. But more importantly, we teach your dog to stay engaged and follow through with these commands, even in the most distracting environments.

Our goal is to enhance your dog’s understanding of obedience, making it a natural part of their behavior, not just a few tricks they perform when they feel like it.

Frequently Asked Questions

We offer a free evaluation during which one of our certified trainers assesses your dog. We look at factors such as age, temperament, and behaviour challenges to determine and recommend the best program that ideally fits your dog’s needs and your goals as an owner.

The 3-3-3 rule refers to the adjustment period many dogs, such as newly adopted or rescued dogs , go through in a new home. This period includes 3 days to decompress, 3 weeks to learn a routine, and 3 months to feel truly settled. For Cincinnati dog owners, understanding this timeline is key to setting realistic training expectations.
The 7 essential commands we focus on are: Sit, Stay, Down, Come, Heel, Leave It, and Place. These foundational commands are the core of our obedience programs and are especially important for dogs that accompany their owners to Cincinnati’s busy parks, outdoor dining spots, and public spaces. However, whether you choose our dog or puppy training in Cincinnati, your dog will learn much more as we help them work toward good behavior all the time.
Definitely not. Dogs of any age can learn new behaviors and improve their obedience. In fact, many of the Cincinnati dogs we train are adults whose owners are addressing specific behavior problems that have developed over time. Our balanced training approach is designed to work with a dog’s current habits and instincts, not against them, which makes it highly effective for older dogs. Age is never a barrier to a better-behaved dog.
Our Board and Train program in Cincinnati entails owners temporarily leaving their dog at our Cincinnati facility, which stays for an intensive, immersive training experience led by our certified trainers. It’s ideal for Cincinnati dog owners who have busy schedules, are dealing with significant behavior challenges, or want to see fast, lasting results. Your dog gets consistent daily training in a structured environment, and we transition you back into the picture at the end of the program so the skills stick at home, too.
Our trainers are experienced in balanced training techniques, specifically tailored for aggressive dog training in Cincinnati. Through this training, we address a wide range of behavioral issues, such as leash reactivity and resource guarding to dog-to-dog aggression and separation anxiety. Rather than suppressing symptoms, we work on the underlying causes of problem behavior and teach your dog more appropriate responses. If your dog has shown concerning behavior, the first step is always a free evaluation so we can assess the situation and build a safe, effective plan.
The best program depends on your dog’s age, current behavior, your schedule, and your goals. Our free evaluation is specifically designed to answer this question. One of our certified trainers will assess your dog and walk you through program options that make sense for your situation. Cincinnati families have used everything from a single private lesson series to a full board and train stay, and our trainers will never recommend more than you need.
