Cheryl MacIntyre
Owner and Head Trainer
Cheryl’s love for dogs began at an early age and has grown into a lifelong passion for canine behaviour, training, nutrition, and dog sports. As a child, she even dreamed of becoming a veterinarian, and throughout her life, dogs have continued to play an important role both personally and professionally.
In 2011, Cheryl began competing with her dogs in DockDogs, and she quickly developed a passion for the sport of dock diving. Since then, she has competed at events throughout Canada and the United States while also helping others discover, learn, and enjoy the sport. Cheryl has competed at the DockDogs World Championships since 2012 and has also competed with her dogs in Dueling Dogs at the world level since 2015.
Cheryl’s dog sport experience extends beyond dock diving. She and her dogs have also participated in Flyball and Disc Dog sports, giving her experience across a variety of canine sports and training disciplines. Working with dogs in different competitive environments has further developed her understanding of canine behaviour, motivation, drive, confidence, and the importance of building a strong relationship between dog and handler.
Beyond competition, Cheryl has a strong commitment to helping dogs and their families. Since 2012, she has fostered numerous dogs in support of NOLA Lab Rescue. Through fostering, she has gained valuable hands-on experience assessing canine behaviour, teaching basic obedience and life skills, and helping evaluate potential homes to create successful matches between dogs and their new families.
Cheryl has turned her years of experience, education, and passion for dogs into a rewarding professional career as the owner and head trainer of The Dog Wizard Barrie & The Bay. She is dedicated to helping owners better understand their dogs, build stronger relationships, and develop the skills and confidence needed to enjoy life together.
For Cheryl, working with dogs isn’t simply a career—it’s the continuation of a lifelong passion for helping dogs reach their potential and strengthening the bond between dogs and the people who love them.
