Beth Skove

Sr. Dog Trainer

Beth Skove is a former automotive marketing executive who brings her passion for learning and teaching to dogs and dog owners through the Dog Wizard experience. She got her first dog when she was 12, and the only way her mother would let the dog in the house was if it was trained. That dog, cleverly named “Runt,” was the first of many family dogs that Beth would train.

Now she has trained Max in the Dog Wizard Way (shown here on “Place” and in leaves). Maxwell House Black Coffee is her second black lab. She shares Max with her husband of 35 years.

When she’s not training people and dogs, Beth likes to work a little magic in the gardens, read, or spend time with her grandson.

Years of Experience: 50+

Certifications & Qualifications: The Dog Wizard Top Dog Certification; published author; former marketing executive

Hobbies: Gardening (flowers, trees, vegetables), reading, spending time with grandchildren

Notes: Favorite breed Golden Retriever — loyal and dependable; patient trainer who takes the time needed for lasting manners.

Autumn Wilson

Experienced Trainer

Autumn is a dedicated canine trainer with a lifelong passion for animals. She began her journey studying Animal and Veterinary Sciences at the Heartland Technical Education Center (formerly Ashland County – West Holmes Career Center) and gained early hands-on experience through volunteering at the local Humane Society, farm work, and equine sports.

After graduation, she apprenticed with multiple trainers and continued expanding her education, skills, and knowledge through seminars, behavior courses, and extensive hands-on work. Autumn has rehabilitated dogs from owner surrender due to behavioral issues and behavioral euthanasia cases, helping many go on to succeed in sport, performance, and service roles.

She has experience supporting a volunteer Service Dog Program, is an accomplished competitor in Disc Dog Sports, and trains with a Mondioring Club with her own dogs. As an AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluator, she brings compassion, expertise, and a commitment to helping dogs and their families thrive.

I had a great experience with The Dog Wizard! Their trainer, Beth, has an incredible ability to connect with dogs and brought out the best in my puppy Luna. The Dog Wizard offers personalized, one-on-one training sessions in your home, tailored to your goals and your dog’s needs. Beth broke everything down into steps easy to understand, corrected the things I was unknowingly doing wrong, and taught me techniques to improve Luna’s behavior.

I would absolutely recommend The Dog Wizard — especially Beth — to anyone looking for personalized dog training that is effective. She made the whole experience not only educational but also enjoyable for me and Luna.

We’ve been working with Emily at Akron Dog Wizard since our pup, Kaiya, was just 10 weeks old (she’s now 7 months), and the experience has been nothing short of amazing. Emily has been patient, kind, and incredibly caring with Kaya from day one.

She’s taught Kaiya all her standard commands with clear, consistent training, and she’s been just as thorough and patient with us as owners—guiding us every step of the way. Emily is always available to answer questions, big or small, and her instruction has given us so much confidence in working with our dog.

If you’re looking for a trainer who truly cares about your dog’s success and well-being, Emily is the one! Highly recommend. 🐾

We had a wonderful experience working with Beth to help our two three-year-old pups learn some much-needed manners. From the very beginning, Beth impressed us with her gentle, loving approach and her natural connection with animals. She took the time to understand each dog's personality and tailored her training accordingly, creating a calm and positive environment that our pups responded to immediately.

Beth's style is patient, encouraging, and incredibly effective. We noticed real improvements not only in their behavior but also in how they listened and interacted with us. It's clear that she truly cares about the animals she works with, and her passion shines through in every session.

I highly recommend the Dog Wizard for training dogs. I adopted a shelter dog who was a wild child. Beth has taught my dog and I how to calm her down and obey. I know with daily practice she will become a great obedient dog.

About The Dog Wizard Akron

Our dog training goes beyond basic commands like Sit, Come, and Down. Our approach focuses on helping your dog make better choices and respond to you instead of their impulses.

We cover all the essential obedience commands you need to communicate effectively with your dog. But more importantly, we teach your dog to stay engaged and follow through with these commands, even in the most distracting environments.

Our goal is to enhance your dog’s understanding of obedience, making it a natural part of their behavior, not just a few tricks they perform when they feel like it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dog Wizard Akron offers a free evaluation. This enables our trainers to talk with you, in depth, learn about your dog, go over your training goals, and find a program that works for you. Give us a call and we will help you set one up.
The Dog Wizard trainers are well versed in a variety of training tools; from food to collars to remote collars. We know that not all dogs do well with every tool and we will help you decide what tool is best for your dog as well as what tools you’re comfortable with using. At the end of the day, whatever tool you’re comfortable in using will be the one you’re most consistent in using and that’s what’s most important to us.
It is never too late to start teaching your dog new habits. It will take more time and effort than teaching a new puppy but you will love the outcome.

In order to know how long it will take to train your dog, we will need to do a free consultation. During your consultation, we will get to understand what you are looking to gain from the training as well as evaluate your dog to see what we will need to do to get him where you would like him to be. At that point, we will be able to give you a timeline for his training.

We do not have a one size fits all approach to training. Each dog owner team that has a free evaluation will have a customized program designed to fit your specific needs. While the cost of training is a wide range depending on a myriad of factors and personalization to your and your dog’s needs, training programs start at $250.

Additional questions? We’d love to help.
