Abby Odasso

Advanced Dog Wizard

Abby has dedicated her life to working with animals, fueled by a lifelong passion that began with her diverse experiences caring for dogs, cats, reptiles, and rodents as pets. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Virginia’s College at Wise in Management Information Systems.

During her time in college, she adopted Scooby, a German Shepherd–Golden Retriever mix, which solidified her commitment to animal welfare and profoundly enriched her life. Combining her academic background with her love for animals, Abby became the Chief Operating Officer at a local rescue, where she gained extensive hands-on experience in foundational veterinary tasks such as vaccinating, microchipping, deworming, and administering fluids to both cats and dogs. It was during this time that Abby dedicated countless hours to improving adoption opportunities for the dogs in her care, where she developed her love for dog training and the difference it can make in a dog’s and their owner’s life.

Following her tenure at the rescue, Abby transitioned into a more direct training role with dogs at The Dog Wizard Chantilly, Georgetown, and Tysons Corner. She has since built a robust career, training a wide variety of breeds with a vast array of behavioral issues. Her comprehensive understanding of different breeds and their unique behavioral traits has made her a versatile, skilled trainer.

Abby’s expertise particularly shines when working with anxious dogs. She finds immense satisfaction in helping these dogs overcome their fears and showing them that the world is not as scary as it seems. Her compassionate approach and dedication to animal welfare are evident in every training session, making her an invaluable asset to both the dogs she trains and their owners. Abby is truly committed to making a positive impact in the lives of animals and their human companions.

We had an amazing experience with the Dog Wizard and Sam. We’ve worked with other trainers and done a board and train before and this was the first time we’ve seen real improvement with our dog. Sam was wonderful, he didn’t just tell us what to do, he took the time to explain the rationale behind the training, his whiteboard seasons were awesome! Can’t recommend them enough.

We had an exceptional experience with The Dog Wizard Georgetown-- from our initial contact assessing our pup Cody's needs through his 2-week board and train and follow up lessons.

Cody is a wonderful, energetic, 3-year-old rescue, and we were looking to improve his follow through with commands, his on-leash behavior, and his general reactivity to dogs and other triggers. Cody was trained by Sam, about whom we truly can not say enough good things. Sam's approach focuses on positive reinforcement, while also being firm, clear, and consistent about expectations and boundaries. As we soon learned, much of Cody's training depends on his parents' "training," and Sam worked with us during and after Cody's stay to help us understand how to form a better relationship with our pup and get the behavioral results we were looking for.

When we picked up Cody after boarding, he already displayed significant improvements and positive changes (without any change to his exuberant and happy self). In the following weeks, with Sam's endless guidance at in person lessons and on phone calls and texts, we've continued to work and improve upon Cody's new learning.

The Board and Train program was an investment, and we wanted it to make a impact. We were not disappointed. Sam's understanding of dogs is truly remarkable. His dedication to work with us is equally amazing and appreciated. We are so thankful to Sam and to The Dog Wizard for this great experience for Cody and for us.

We could not be happier with the Georgetown dog wizard. The trainer, Autumn, was nice, professional, and extremely effective. From the moment she met our one year old doberman, Chico, they were friends and we could already see an improvement in his behavior after the first visit. Our pup is a good boy but he had some issues with listening to commands, barking, leash walks, and regulating his behavior. Now, five weeks later, these problems are minimal and Autumn gave us the tools to continue the training and build on the already impressive improvements in Chico's behavior. We highly recommend the Georgetown dog wizard.

All the great things I could say about the Dog Wizard won’t fit in this review, but I will try to highlight the most relevant. To start our trainer Autumn was absolutely phenomenal. She has lived up to and exceeded all our hopes and expectations for this program. I adopted a super fearful and anxious puppy, Belle, who had just completed a board and train with another company, but still needed a lot of work and help. She was super hesitant and wary of pretty much everything and anyone (suitcases, trash bins, any largeish object, people walking, biking, running) and also anything that made noise and/or was big (cars, buses, construction, leaf blowers, etc.). We couldn’t even walk around our apartment complex let alone go anywhere outside of it without Belle shutting down or experiencing immense fear. We did the 8 week private freedom program with Autumn and it was the best decision I could’ve made for Belle because she got training but so did I as her owner. Autumn really helped me understand what was going on in Belles head and how to read her body language and pick up on cues before something happened (she would freeze up and dart away which can be extremely dangerous especially with all the roads and traffic right where we live). Autumn taught me how to help manage Belles stress through exposure to her environment, being sensitive to Belles threshold around triggers and taught us commands that helped Belle interact in a positive and fun way with everything around her. Each weeks lesson was built upon the last and the homework she gave us to practice weekly was invaluable because it really helped Belle learn to trust me and strengthen our bond. Autumns knowledge about dogs behavior and psychology is truly remarkable and her ability to counteract, address and educate me about the problems and issues we were facing was incredible. She answered any and every question I had and Im happy to report that after completing this program Belle and I can go pretty much go anywhere. We walk around our neighborhood daily, can go downtown in busier areas, and Belle comes with me on shopping trips in stores. This is a dog that couldn’t even walk by a knee high trash bin without spazzing out and experiencing great fear and now she has fun touching all the scary objects she comes across. Belle still gets nervous and anxious in some situations but the difference is now we can work through that nervousness together and I know how to help her manage her anxiety and she also has the confidence to work through scary situations herself. I’m truly happy we chose to do this and I’m beyond grateful that we got Autumn as our trainer. There’s good dog trainers and even great dog trainers and then there’s Autumn who set Belle and I up for a lifetime of success. I can’t thank her enough.

Austin is a miracle worker. I’ve trained many dogs, and had many trainers, but I’ve never met a trainer like Austin, who has an almost magical ability to calm our puppy down—but more importantly — to teach me to calm down while I’m working with her. Austin’s help was worth 10 times what I paid for it. And instead of 2 months of training, our puppy (not quite 6 months) “graduated” in 5 weeks. God bless her, I learned so much from Austin! And she was extraordinarily gentle in correcting my (rather know-it-all) mistakes. I could not even imagine a better trainer. N.B. We had private training once a week.

You CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

My husband and I have had a 7-year love-hate relationship with our dog. He’s mini Australian Shepherd. We had him since he was 6 weeks old and he was thoroughly socialized until he was neutered when the behavioral problems began to manifest (aggression, separation anxiety). Walking him was nearly impossible. He barked and lunged at other dogs and unsuspecting passersby. Strolling in parks was always a drama-filled affair with him protesting anyone or anything within a 3-foot radius of us. He also barked at any sound beyond our door to the annoyance and dismay of our neighbors. Leaving home for any reason invited snarling, barking and the occasional bite, which has only worsened during COVID-19 because we do not leave home nearly as often as before. We needed help. It was either the dog or our sanity.

I found The Dog Wizard online and enrolled our pup in the 3 week intensive training/ boarding program. Scott and his team were great. We received regular updates of our pup and his progress (though to be honest, I was so relieved and relaxed over the 21 days our dog was away that I would have happily paid The Dog Wizard staff to keep him!)

To say that things have changed would be an understatement. I’ve always loved my dog, but I actually LIKE him now as well. Taking our pup for a walk is actually enjoyable and stress free. So much so, that I find myself spending much more time with him walking each day. No pulling, barking or drama—barely feels like he is there at all. When we took him to the closest park, he walked obediently by my side without distraction and then(!) sat quietly on a bench while six other dogs yapped and played nearby. That would have been unthinkable a month earlier. His separation anxiety has also dialed back considerably.

Before The Dog Wizard, our dog was 70% unmanageable and 30% lovable. Now, he’s 90% lovable and his crazy side rarely manifests, and when it does, it is no where near the intensity as before. Scott and his team are miracle workers. They have given us training tips as well as the tools to keep our pup on the right path.

The Dog Wizard is worth every penny. My only regret is that we did not find and enroll Barnaby in The Dog Wizard years earlier.

We have had a great experience with Scott at DC Dog Wizard! Our new rescue was having anxiety issues, fear based aggression and was not doing well calmly meeting other dogs. We ended up doing the training with both of our dogs so our older dog could brush up on skills as well. They both took to the training quickly and each week Scott was able to build on the skills we learnt the week before. The great thing about Scott's training is if you need a little brush up on training or just a little more structure after your training is done thats provided for you. We felt and still feel supported. With our second dog who already did well with commands we were still able to teach him new things and Scott gave us some additional fun tricks so he got a lot out of the training too. With Scott's help we were even able to teach Bentley to jump and balance on fire hydrants! What fun!

I was initially unsure about putting my dog through a two week training class, however he was a monster when it came to pulling on the leash, had major issues with jumping on people - so I sucked it up and sent him away with Scott. Man was that a good decision! When Harrison came back, he was like another dog! By that I mean his personality had not changed at all, but he was incredibly obedient. Before he'd nearly pull me off my feet, now when we walk, hes always at my left side and there is slack in the leash, even when we are passing other dogs. I frequently let him off the leash now as well, whereas before I would never see him again if I let him off the leash. Also, when he is off the leash, I'll allow him to run around, then all I need to say to bring him back to my left side is "heel" and hes back again, just like in movies.

There were a multitude of other problems that were corrected as well with this training, like he seems to be much better now with other dogs. I don't know if it is the training or just being around other dogs for two weeks, but he seems to be far better.

I was also initially unsure about going with Scott's e-collar, but I am glad I did. I have a bunch of e-collars but they are not good for the type of training you'll be doing with your dog. The collar Scott uses is much more humane as you can really adjust it to avoid over shocking your dog.

I would hands down recommend this training for your dog, its the fastest way to get your dog trained and its very, very effective!

Frequently Asked Questions

The Dog Wizard Georgetown offers a free evaluation. This enables our trainers to talk with you, in depth, learn about your dog, go over your training goals, and find a program that works for you. Give us a call and we will help you set one up.
The Dog Wizard trainers are well versed in a variety of training tools; from food to collars to remote collars. We know that not all dogs do well with every tool and we will help you decide what tool is best for your dog as well as what tools you’re comfortable with using. At the end of the day, whatever tool you’re comfortable in using will be the one you’re most consistent in using and that’s what’s most important to us.
It is never too late to start teaching your dog new habits. It will take more time and effort than teaching a new puppy but you will love the outcome.

In order to know how long it will take to train your dog, we will need to do a free consultation. During your consultation, we will get to understand what you are looking to gain from the training as well as evaluate your dog to see what we will need to do to get him where you would like him to be. At that point, we will be able to give you a timeline for his training.

We do not have a one size fits all approach to training. Each dog owner team that has a free evaluation will have a customized program designed to fit your specific needs. While the cost of training is a wide range depending on a myriad of factors and personalization to your and your dog’s needs, training programs start at $250.

Additional questions? We’d love to help.
