Therapy Preparation

A dog can be great for using its positive energy to brighten the everyday lives for all those who are sick, in trouble, or elderly. The therapeutic value of dogs is undisputed, and can be a very rewarding experience for both the dog and the person they are assisting. Therapy dog work is one of the most amazing ways to share your dogs delightful energy and spirit with others. Not all dogs are suited for this type of work, but at our Mooresville center, we can help you prepare your dog for their certification and evaluate if they would be a good addition to the therapy world. We will prepare you in all the necessary ways for your dog to pass their test and become a therapy dog so that your team can visit therapeutic facilities whenever you would like. If you are seeking a more intense Service Dog training and certification, we are partnered with the Paws for People Foundation, which is an organization that trains and places service dogs throughout the country. Start spreading the love with your dog — get in touch with us to learn about our therapy dog training classes.

Whether this your first baby, or it is just your dog’s first baby, we can help prepare for your new arrival, so you are not worried and stressed about what might happen. It is never too late to start the dog training classes, but we recommend that you try to start between your 4th and 6th month of pregnancy. We suggest that you do NOT bring your dog to these classes so you can concentrate on the information being taught without any distractions.

Socialization

Our socials are run for any of our clients who have been through our dog training programs, or for any of our Puppy Preschool graduates that are six months or older. Our sole purpose for these socials is to improve social skills for dogs that are lacking in social graces (don’t worry, any dog that is not great with others has a muzzle on, and only one non-social dog is in the group at a time). These dogs depend on happy-go-lucky friends to show them the way! Our socials are run with structure in mind, but also letting dogs be dogs. We feel it’s so crucial for young dogs to learn the skills to understand that not every dog wants them all in their face. Learning how to have good manners with ALL kinds of temperaments may save your dog from harm in the real world. But mostly, it’s a nice, controlled, safe play group for your pup! We like to take the opportunity to work on human social skills for our pups as well, like no jumping! Contact us to learn more about our dog training socials.

Support Group Class

This is our way of saying….we are here to help you for the long haul!

We are here to support you, so we promise our graduates lifetime support through our Support Class. Upon graduation, you will begin coming to our weekly group class once your pooch has completed their dog training. These classes are designed to reinforce your dog’s skills in high-distraction settings, and provide a forum for continued support for our clients.

Class is held in different area locations which are listed weekly in our Events Calendar, and we highly encourage people to come as much as they like for the rest of their dog’s life! We consider our clients to be a part of our Dog Wizard Family, and we look forward to seeing all of our graduates at Group Class each week! Contact our dog training experts with any questions.

Many of our pet parents start with our Foundation Class. This is a small group of pets and pet parents, usually five to seven pairs per class, that work together on basic obedience. It comes with five lessons, virtual instruction between the classes, a Facebook support group, and online assignments that help to keep your puppy’s training on track. These lessons occur on a loose leash so you have some control over your pet.

This is a time when your puppy can learn basic commands like sit and place, as well as loose leash walking. The small group is a good introduction to socialization.

Puppies should be properly socialized as early as possible. This helps them learn how to tolerate other dogs and humans. A dog that’s well socialized will be able to thrive in busy settings, so it might be able to go into pet-friendly stores with you, for example. This is also beneficial for dog owners who want to take their dogs to dog parks or similar locations.

The dog obedience classes offered by The Dog Wizard Greenville also help dogs be able to obey commands even when they’re distracted. This is important because it can help the dog remain safe when it’s out in public, as well as keeping those around the dog safer.

Why Is Puppy Obedience Training Important?

Puppy obedience training helps you set the standards for your puppy, and it works to build a relationship based on trust and respect between you and your canine companion. The key to making this as successful as possible is to avoid situations that can lead to frustration for you and your dog. The dog trainers with The Dog Wizard Greenville are prepared to work closely with you to find the most effective way to train your puppy.

Starting obedience classes soon after the puppy comes to your home can help you take advantage of the pup’s formative time. Dogs are more receptive to training before the age of 6 months than at any other time in their life.

During the first six months of the puppy’s life, you can teach it basic skills like come, place, sit, and off. This is also the best time to housetrain the dog as well as train them on a leash. The Dog Wizard Greenville works with puppies from 10 weeks through 6 months. We sometimes work with puppies as young as 8 weeks, but never any younger than that.

Our Philosophy

When you start to look into dog training, you’ll find there are many different methods and philosophies used by trainers. The Dog Wizard Greenville doesn’t focus on just one part of dog training, as many other programs do. Instead, we use a multifaceted approach that we can adjust to meet the needs of each dog in the program.

We use positive reinforcement, corrective actions, and preventive measures to help the dog learn what behavior is acceptable and what isn’t. As we go through the program, we learn what works for each dog. We can tailor our strategies for what’s working for the dog during the training sessions.

Our program helps to address many behavioral issues, including things like separation anxiety and minor aggression. The key to doing this is to determine the underlying issue so we can find a solution that will work. In some cases, helping the dog gain confidence is all that’s necessary. Redirecting the dog is another solution. Our trainers work closely with each pet parent to find the methods that work for their dog and lifestyle.

Other Dog Training Options

Our group puppy obedience training classes are only one of our offerings. The Dog Wizard Greenville also offers private lessons for pet parents who need some one-on-one training. This is ideal if there are specific behaviors that need to be addressed.

For some pet parents, private training provides the puppy with the foundation it needs before attending group classes. It’s a way for a shy or apprehensive puppy to slowly adjust to being involved with people outside the house. This home dog training is also a good time to work on off-leash obedience.

We also offer a Board and Train option that lasts 7, 14, or 21 days. During this time, your puppy stays with us so we can go through an intense puppy training program with it. Once the intensive phase is over, we work closely with you through group and private lessons to ensure your dog is keeping up with the training at home.
